Before you start

This project uses artificial foam pumpkins, so no carving is needed. Read the paint label and kit directions first. Choose one pumpkin for a first session and work on a covered table. Plan to add stickers only after the painted surface is fully dry.

At the craft table
Follow the kit’s age and supervision guidance. Keep small sticker pieces away from young children and pets. These foam pumpkins are decorations; keep them away from flames, heaters, and food-contact surfaces.

Make it step by step

  1. Choose a front and a resting position

Set your pumpkin down and turn it until you find a face area you like. Notice how it sits without wobbling. Keep the stem and bottom as they are, and move any loose packaging away from the painting area.

  2. Plan three simple zones

On scrap paper, sketch a base color, a face, and one accent such as dots or stripes. Keep the face large enough to read from across a table. Lay the face stickers beside the pumpkin so you can check their size before painting.

  3. Brush on a light first coat

Put a little paint on the palette and load the brush lightly. Cover the visible foam with short strokes that follow its curves, leaving the stem clear. Avoid puddles in the grooves; a thin coat is easier to control than a heavy one.

  4. Let the base dry before adding more

Rest the pumpkin on its unpainted bottom and allow the paint to dry for the time on the label. If the white base still shows more than you want, apply another thin coat and let it dry again. Turn it only when the paint can be handled safely.

  5. Add one painted accent

Use the tip of a brush for spaced dots or follow a groove for a stripe. Repeat the same accent around the upper half to keep the design calm. Rinse the brush between colors and blot away excess water before returning to the paint.

  6. Position the face before peeling

Hold the backed face pieces against the dry pumpkin to choose the eyes and mouth positions. Peel and press one piece at a time, working from its center toward the edges. Place larger stickers on the flatter parts of the curve so their corners sit down.

  7. Finish with a few rhinestones

Add rhinestone stickers around the face or stem as small highlights. Press each sticker gently without crushing the foam. Stop when the face remains the main feature, then inspect the sticker edges and any paint on the bottom before moving your pumpkin.

Make it your own

Try a single-color pumpkin with a contrasting face before attempting several painted patterns.

Use the larger pumpkin curves for wide stickers and save small stickers for tighter curves.

Keep your finished pumpkins indoors unless the product directions expressly allow outdoor display.

Common fixes

Paint looks streaky.

Let the coat dry according to the paint label, then add a thin second coat instead of repeatedly brushing wet paint.

A sticker edge lifts on a curve.

Move it to a flatter, fully dry area if it can be lifted without damage. Avoid covering the whole curve with one large sticker.

Finish & enjoy

Wait for all paint to dry according to its label. Arrange the pumpkin on a stable shelf or centerpiece tray with the face pointing forward, then store it where stickers will not rub against other decorations.
